The Shanghai Bailonggang Wastewater Treatment Plant is a mammoth of water treatment, being the largest sewage treatment plant in Asia and one of the largest in the world.
For the expansion of the facility, which also includes the introduction of more advanced water treatment processes, it was decided to rely on the experience and proven effectiveness of the solutions developed by ABB.
ABB provided medium- and low-voltage digital solutions for processes such as advanced phosphorus removal, along with chlorination and UV light disinfection of the discharged water guaranteeing water quality and reducing pollutants, and developed a management system aimed to prevent downtime during the upgrading phases of the facility, which serves more than 7 million Shanghainese and manages one-third of the municipal wastewater produced in the Chinese megacity.
ABB China’s Electrification Business Area lead business manager, James Zhao, said: “It is a great honor to work with Shanghai Bailonggang Wastewater Treatment Plant on its mission to support Shanghai’s sustainable development. ABB is uniquely positioned to support the demanding energy requirements of water processing plants with safe, reliable power distribution systems and efficient energy management.
